'Rally to Read was one of the greatest weekends I have experienced...'
Debbie Abramson of Emira writes: "On behalf of James and Adriaan, our two dedicated drivers of the Johannesburg team, we would like thank you for a smooth, slick and successful Rally."We were all moved by this amazing event and have included sentiments and comments from our fellow teammates: Rally to Read was one of the greatest weekends I have experienced, not purely because of the fine company, food, surroundings etc… All of these things were indeed great, but the most wonderful aspects of the weekend were those that we experienced in the communities we visited. We were treated like royalty and it was clear how much Rally to Read meant to them. Just to witness first-hand the hope that both the children and teachers had for the future, even when they had no electricity or running water. We could all learn a thing or two from these communities to appreciate what we have – we take for granted the resources and opportunities that most of us receive in life. Thank you, Rally to Read for an amazing and humbling experience. (Dylan Jones)
I found our visit to the schools to be a very emotional experience. Whilst it was very sad to see the conditions under which the children live it was also uplifting to see the manner in which we were received and the genuine appreciation for what is being done for the children. I wish more people, especially children from the ‘northern suburbs’, could have this experience – it would hopefully make them appreciate all that they have. (Trevor Good)
My experience at the two schools we visited over the weekend was breathtaking, humbling and definitely something I will be doing again. I often complain about the system and not having enough of the things that I really want, and showing very little gratitude for all the things I have. Spending the day with children who have so little, but yet are very passionate and appreciative, made me reflect on my own life and be more grateful for the life I’m so fortunate to have. It made me realise that the life I’m living now was once but a dream. Thank you “Rally to Read” for giving me the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life and more, importantly, for the opportunity to be more appreciative of my life and the things I have. (Helen Mutshekwa)
I had a wonderful time with Rally to Read. It was a great experience to give back to the community and to see the happy faces on those who have so little. The schools are in remote areas and don’t have any form of proper learning equipment and Rally to Read does a good job to supply that. Rally to Read is an amazing foundation that should continue with other schools across South Africa or maybe even Africa itself. (Corné Gronum)
"Again, thank you for a most enjoyable and memorable experience!
Hope to see you again next year."
